I’m getting ready to start writing a new novel (young adult fantasy) and (as always) I’m very excited but having a tough time figuring out where I want to start! And I don’t mean where I want to start Chapter 1. I mean, where do I want to start my writing.
With my first novel, I started about 2/3rd of the way through the book. This way I already knew who my characters were (I didn’t have to develop them yet) and the scenes were very full of energy and action. From there, I wrote to the end of the book and then started with the beginning.
With my second novel I started at the beginning and wrote forward for quite a bit. Then I jumped around from the middle to the end. I wound up outlining the entire novel to make sure I filled in all the gaps!
With this third novel I’m still not yet sure where I want to start. The plotline stems from a short story I wrote, so I will probably start there, editing and adding as I move along.
So tell me, where do you start writing if you are working on a short story, novella, or novel?

I’m starting the year off with a writing prompt, because hopefully somewhere in your New Year’s Resolutions was something to do with writing and journaling. Well, now it’s time to start SHARING that writing!
And amazingly enough, today is “Make Your Dreams Come True Day.” What are your dreams? Write about the dreams you have for your future. And tell us how you are going to make them come true.
